E Pluribus in the News
ARTISTS STATEMENT - Muriel Stockdale: As an immigrant of 40 years last year, 2007, I have always been impressed by the diversity of culture and freedom of expression permitted to all who come to the USA. My art project is “E PLURIBUS” - a series of American Flags made by hand from fabrics evocative of the different cultures that make up the USA. The title is borrowed from the Great Seal of the United States and meaning, “Out of Many, One” it refers to the union of the first 13 states. I find it ironic that this statement is still absolutely relevant today when so many arrive from so far to make up this One, great nation of the USA. To learn more -
